Suzan was raised on a farm in Gobles Michigan and graduated in a class of 70. She obtained her BSN first at Grand Valley State University then practiced as a Cardiac Critical Care nurse before going back to Grand Valley State University to obtain her MSN, APNP - certified as an adult mental health nurse practitioner. She graduated in 1997 and has provided services in Mental Health since that time.

Her work experience in health care started initially as a CNA in a nursing home and then extended to a Mental Health Crisis House for Van Buren County where she served on their board for 10 years. She worked in home health nursing for 15 years where she started a new service for the mental health population and those individuals who frequented ER’s for improving symptom management of anxiety, depression, sleep and mood disorders. She has worked in management as a Director of a psychiatric unit as well as a provider in a busy private practice office. She became interested in Hospice care, focused on learning palliative and end of life care and became a Hospice Nurse Practitioner providing symptom management and Medicare required evaluations as well as eventually becoming the clinical manager for hospice care. During this time, she also provided long term care geriatric mental health services.

In 2016 she decided to relocate to the big city when offered a job to work with the chronically mentally ill population with diagnosis of Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, as well as the acute mental health eating disorders, ADHD and spectrum disorders.

She loves being a mother of three adult children, a grandmother and also enjoy her two dogs who she saved 8 years ago. She enjoys nature, and is passionate about helping people and protecting animals.
