A Caring Environment Born from Experience

Dr. Melanie Schwartz is a clinical psychologist, who owns and practices at Viewpoint Psychology and Wellness in Commerce Township and West Bloomfield. She opened Viewpoint four years ago after working for various practices throughout the Detroit Metro area. Viewpoint grew very quickly due to the increasing demands of mental health needs in the area and has become one of the established mental health practices in the Metro Detroit area.

Dr. Schwartz specializes in working with pre/adolescent and adult populations with a variety of mental health needs, including anxiety disorders, depression disorders, self-esteem issues, grief, trauma, and ADHD related concerns. She also works with families and couples. Dr. Schwartz is committed to her practice and believes in a holistic approach to treatment, in addition to her therapeutic styles of Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral therapies. Her goal with her clients is to help them achieve the life that they want to live in a healthy and meaningful way.

Dr. Schwartz began her career in Chicago after attending Michigan State University for undergrad and the Illinois School of Professional Psychology for her masters and doctoral degrees. She returned to Michigan in 2007 and has been working in the private practice realm since her return. Since coming home, Dr. Schwartz has worked hard to make a name for herself and now her growing practice in the profession and in the community.

Volunteering her services to the community is very important to Dr. Schwartz. She volunteers her time to the board of the West Bloomfield Youth Assistance and works closely with both the West Bloomfield and Lakes area coalitions. Her practice has relationships with the local school districts, temples and synagogues, chambers of Commerce in Commerce Twp and West Bloomfield, and medical practices in the area. She also develops and directs Parenting on the Go videos for the youth assistance, which are short videos on different mental health topics for the West Bloomfield community.

In addition to her career, Dr. Schwartz has been married to her husband Glen for 14 years. They have two little boys, ages 6 and almost 9. Both boys attend Hillel Day School. When not working, you can open and Dr. Schwartz hanging out with her family and small zoo (dog, bunny, 2 chameleons, 2 cockatiels, an African grey parrot, 2 guinea pigs) or with her strong community of friends and family in the area.
