What We Treat
Coping With Trauma
Trauma can take the form a one time experience such, as a natural disaster, or an ongoing event such as abuse.
Experiences of trauma can be devastating for a person leaving the individual struggling to understand what has happened, why it happened, and what to do once the event has ended. These are just some of the concerns that are addressed after trauma has occurred.
As a result, some people choose to go on living as if nothing has happened, only to find that one day they are struggling to cope with something that had occurred years ago. Others, struggle to cope immediately and experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, or use substances as a way to get through the pain.
Learning to effectively cope with a traumatic experience can be beneficial to the person who experienced it as well as the family and friends who are unsure of how to effectively support the person in their lives. Learning strategies and having the ability to process thoughts and emotions can be a healthy choice during a difficult time in one’s life.
